Morality cannot be legislated, but behavior can be regulated. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
I chose this quote because it is powerful and shows our human nature. It means the morals of people can't be controlled, its how they were raised up. However, the behavior or the way one acts can be adjusted in different situations. This is can take place in my own life because as a teenager there are times when you know how you should act and the way you end up acting. There is always a right or wrong telling you what to do.

The quote, "Predjudice is a lazy man's substitute for thinking" is a great quote because it's true. I chose this quote because I don't like laziness. This quote means that Lazy people usually hate and fear things because they don't understand them. This quote is true in my life becuase I hear it almost every day. Predjudice isn't necessarily what Lazy people think but, when a person like that doesn't understand something or is jealous of that success they try harder to take that away from the individual then they try to earn it for themselves.

A house divided against itself cannot stand. ~ Abraham Lincoln
I chose this quote because this was a true historical fact. When leaders are against one another, everything falls apart. It can be implimented day to day life by just not agrguing with your friends and family. When arguments happen, everyone allways seems to get upset and angry and you can lose a friendship because of one little difference of opinion.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. ~ The Golden Rule
I liked this quote because it is something that I was always taught to live by. To me, this quote means that if you want people to be nice to you and show you respect, you have to do the same to them, even if you aren't very fond of them. When you go throughout your day, even if your in a bad mood, you should still be nice to people, hold doors, let them in front of you, just small things like that, even just a smile.

...not by the color of my skin but by the content of my character. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
People are so cruel when it comes to the color of someone's skin. This quote is so small in words but so big with its meaning. What Martin Luther King Jr. is trying to say is "Just because I'm a black man, does not mean I'm less of a person." People are all born with different colors of skin, some are lucky enough to live in a society where that is accepted and not looked down upon, others not so much. What i don't understand is why the color of someone's skin matters so much to some people. If you were blind, you wouldn't know the color of someone's skin, you could have a great relationship with this person, and when you found out they were black by a miracle that you can see again, you could instantly hate them and look at them as if they are below you. This is a terrible way to look at people, but sadly it happens everday.

Goodness, like evil, often begins in small steps. Heros evolve; they aren't born.~Ervin Staub
I picked this quote is because i believe that they both can start from small steps and lead into good or bad. Someone who becomes a hero can say it took time to accomplish that with earning respect from people and good morals. Although, it can also happen with evil, a great example is Hitler. He started from a low estate in Germany and worked his way up the ladder to dictator of Germany. The quote is saying that if either way you choose that it will take time and effort to reach what you want to achieve...hero or villian.

A house divided against itself cannot stand. ~ Abraham Lincoln

This quote stands out to me because I think there's a reason that family's live in the same house. I know that my family wouldn't be as strong as it is now if we were seperated. I'd be alone, and I couldn't go running to my parents everytime something didn't go the way I thought it would. I couldn't live on my own, support myself, go to school and get good grades or have the potential to do something great because I wouldn;t have had my family members constantly reminding me what "good morals" are or how to respect and treat someone. As much as we think that we can do so much without our family, and we constantly wish they would leave us alone, they are keeping us together, not ripping us apart. This also made me think about how difficult it would have been in the concentration camps also. I'm pretty sure I would have given if I was seperated from my family.

    Discussion #4-- Due Wednesday
I view Gatsby as a true value man. Even though he has had his rough times and done some worng things to get to where he is today, he seems to be in a good place now. Yes, he's lied and hurt many people, but he is aware of that and gradually starts to change and become a better man. He was very successful but not in an arrogant kind of way. His love for Daisy was worth more than life and every material item he owned to him. He'd give everything up in a heartbeat for her, which shows how much of a gentleman he is in this book. Gatsby accepts his new neighbor and politley invites him into his home. All of these qualities prove to us the readers what a genuine, caring and respectable man Gatsby is.

    Discussion #4-- Due Wednesday
I think that Gastby was both great and not great. Gastby was great because he loved a girl so much that he did everything he could to get her love back. He went to the army to get money and he came back and Daisy was with another man. I don't thyink he's great because of his methods of obtaining all his money. He should have done it the right way, and not by cheating to get rich by selling bonds. But then again, he worked so hard to make his life to his standards even when he was a younger boy with writing how to improve his life in his little journal. Also what doesn't make him great is the fact that he is a compulsive liar, and lies to everyone including his only good friend, Nick. So No, He is not great. At All.
